Another way to stall

Well, I have a ton of things to sew, and I can't seem to get to it. So I have started working on necklaces again. Started to sort out the boxes of beads AGAIN. I have told myself that tonight, when the kids get to bed, that i WILL SEW SOMETHING. Quilting Arts Magazine is having a challange to make a 5 x 5 quilt out of recycled materials. They are not due for a while, i might try to get myself to make one or two a week (not only using recycled materials) just to try to get me back in the swing of things. I did manage a few sketches, and with the news of the return of the journal quilt project, Im finally getting some ideas. So Ill get off the computer and back up to the studio........ after i finish sorting beads......

Older Dolls

Here are a few of the older dolls that i have done, i like the bodies, the faces sorta suck. Maybe some practice drawing faces is in order.

Cloth Dolls

I seem to be stalling on the projects i really need to get done. So once again, I find myself working on "other" things. I have been making dolls for a while, mostly from one pattern. I have altered the patter a bit, making the legs one piece, shrinking it, etc. But i have decided that i would do one more doll (maybe one LAST) doll on my own, with out a pattern. Heck, i can do it with quilts, why not dolls right?!! Well, she is not working out so well, Her face is ok (looks better in person then on the web) but the body stinks. i can't seem to make nice feet, or even arms for that matter, i think that the problem lies in my fabric choice, a t-shirt material. So i going back to good old cotton and see if this can work out the issues.

What to do with used gift cards

Make curtains, what else? I have no idea why these seem like a good idea. This is one of the finished ones, i will hang it on the sun pourch. Not quite sure how yet, im thinking of attaching it to a small piece of wood then hang it.. or maybe a tention bar so i don't mess up my new fish bowl windows. Either way, I'm sure the neighbors will love them! I will snap a few shots when i get them all done. Of course i should be working on a hundred other things, but this seemed a great way to stall, in the name of doing something for the house.

Art Doll Quarterly Magazine

This week i was thrilled to see that one of my altered barbies was chosen to be in the Art Doll Quarterly Magazine. I was a bit bugged by the fact that they misprinted the title. "Mental" as clearly stated on everything (and even in letters on the piece) was misprinted as "Menial". I had even spoken to the editor several weeks previous and said i have no piece by that name. Oh well, at least they spelled MY name right! Still it is always nice to see what you have done in print. For those of us with low self image of thier work, it is a bit reassuring that someone else values what has been made. I guess working on a more positive self image is on the "to do" list for this year!

more photos

Since the photos of the quilt are so bad.. here are a few close ups of the quilting on the tree quilt.

holiday gifts

Well i managed to make a few holiday gifts. Its amazing how much work one can do within a limit time. This is why i NEED deadlines. the two dog quits were done in two nights and the large whole cloth piece took two nights of quilting. The two dog quilts were done for my mother and sister, the little pom is my mothers and was done using photo printed fabric of the dog. The doberman with the floppy ears was done with my embrodiery machine and then hand painted. A fun technique that i had published in Creative Embrodiery Magazine. The last piece, a whole cloth, was a piece of fabric from 1973. It was once a wall hanging, streched on a frame that hung over my uncles couch. Sometime in the late 80's I was given the couch and all the 1970's accesories. For some reason i kept the cloth and found it this summer while cleaning my attic. I thought my uncle would get a kick out of getting it back quilted and ready to hang again! You can really see the quilting work on it, in this horrible photo. There are little animals quilted into the white parts. Well time to get back to work. More deadlines to meet.
